Specialized Care for Parkinson's at Senior Helpers Vancouver

A strong care and support network is essential at all stages of Parkinson’s—for both your loved one, family and their caregivers. This journey requires adjusting to new challenges as the disease progresses, and it can take an emotional toll on the family. Fortunately, there is so much you can do to help your loved one live well with Parkinson’s disease, which eases the stress on you and your family while empowering your loved one by improving their quality of life. You don’t have to face a Parkinson's diagnosis alone. Senior Helpers strives to be a trusted part of your care and support team, working closely with the family and the medical team to provide compassionate Parkinson's Care and help your loved one live safely and comfortably.

Expertly Trained in Parkinson's Disease Care

Our Parkinson’s Care Program is the first of its kind in the in-home senior care industry. Created in conjunction with leading experts from the Parkinson’s Foundation’s Center of Excellence network, this program provides the specialized training and education that allows our caregivers to develop personalized care plans for those with Parkinson’s disease.

As the Parkinson's disease advances, your loved one’s needs will change. We know from the start that the in-home care plan for Parkinson's must be able to evolve along with them, and our office and caregivers will work with your family to make the personalized recommendations and adaptations required to meet these specific needs as they arise.

Senior Helpers caregivers are educated and trained on:

  • How Parkinson’s disease advances and what to expect along the way
  • Techniques and strategies to identify and manage the motor (mobility/movement) and non-motor (cognitive/behavioural) symptoms of Parkinson’s
  • Home safety and fall prevention
  • Diet and nutrition
  • Medication timing/management and reminders
  • Light exercise to help seniors maintain balance, mobility, and strength
  • How to notice changes in posture and facial expression and provide comfortable adjustments to maintain coordination and balance
