Surgery Assistance & Sitter Services

No matter how much you might want to, it’s simply not possible to be there at every moment for your elderly family member as they recover from surgery. You have other responsibilities—a job, a family, a home, and personal interests—that demand your time and attention. Senior Helpers can be there when you can’t, providing peace of mind and trained non-medical assistance when your loved one needs it most.

Our caregivers provide sitter services, watching over your loved one in the hospital or another medical facility. When you know we’re there to provide supplemental care and companionship, you can feel free to take a much-needed break or attend to other responsibilities.

Services can typically be provided in the following facilities:

  • Hospitals/Medical Facilities
  • Nursing Homes
  • Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC)
  • Assisted Living Centres
  • Independent Living Facilities

Benefits of Surgery Assistance and Sitter Services

When our local caregivers work in hospitals and other facilities, we do not interfere with the staff and their goals. We simply provide 24-hour support:

  • Companionship and basic assistance for your loved one
  • Peace of mind for you
  • Access to "quick-start" home care services when your loved one is discharged from the facility

Our nurses can assist with post-surgical care in the home, including:

  • Wound care: assess and dress surgical wounds, monitor for signs of infection, and ensure proper healing.

  • Medication management: administer medications, monitor for adverse reactions, and educate our client and their families on medication schedules and side effects.

  • Monitoring vital signs: monitor vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and oxygen saturation to ensure stability and recovery progress.

  • Assistance with mobility: assist with mobility exercises, provide guidance on safe movement techniques, and help prevent complications such as blood clots or muscle atrophy.

  • Education and support: for patients and their families on post-surgical care, including instructions on diet, activity level, signs of complications, and when to seek medical attention.

  • Pain management: administer pain medications as prescribed, and implement non-pharmacological pain management techniques such as positioning or relaxation exercises.

  • Coordination of care: we can communicate with the healthcare team, including surgeons, physicians, therapists, and other caregivers, to ensure continuity of care and facilitate a smooth transition from hospital to home
